Last Saturday evening, June 23, Roslyn High School held its graduation ceremonies for the class of 2001 at The Tilles Center on the C.W. Post University campus. Singled out for special recognition were seniors Jay Goldklang and Allison Liebhaber, both of whom were named as the co-valedictorians for the class. Jay and Allison both received a solid 4.0 for their four years of work at the high school.
Jay has worked on the school newspaper, The Hilltop Beacon, for four years, rising to the position of Editor-in-Chief this year. Jay's high moral and ethical standards have set him apart as a strong leader for his peers. Jay's outstanding musical talent led him to be the principal solo trumpet in the symphonic band and honor symphonic orchestra, as well as the principal leader for the brass section in the marching band and the principal first trumpet in honors' jazz band. Jay has also been recognized in the state of New York as a highly accomplished All State level trumpet performer. Jay's participation goes beyond the newspaper and music. He has been involved in forensics, math club, model congress, and has received numerous awards including winning a National Merit Scholarship. Jay will be attending Yale University in the fall.
Allison has distinguished herself as a very involved member of the Spanish club, science olympiad, human relations club, V.E.R.Y., youth against cancer, and has served on the freshman orientation committee. Not only has Allison been a long-standing member of these clubs, but she has served in a leadership capacity in many of the clubs as treasurer, secretary, vice president, and president. On the athletic fields, Allison has been an asset to every team in which she has participated. She plays basketball and softball and runs cross-country track. Allison has also been honored by the athletic department repeatedly over the last four years winning many Scholar Athlete Awards. Furthermore, Allison has been honored by the College Board as an AP Scholar. Allison will be attending Brown University in the fall.
