Celebrating a triumphant spring season of indoor tennis, Sportime at Roslyn held their Fifth Annual Women's League Tennis Luncheon to honor Spring 2001 award winners and to thank all the dynamic members for their super sportsmanship. On Thursday, May 31, League Director Karen Marlib Palevsky of Manhasset Hills coordinated a tantalizing tennis buffet, inviting hundreds of league members to delight in a day of round robin tennis on all nine har-tru clay courts. Between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. major leaguers mingled during doubles action with members from all 16 leagues.

Club management, staff pros and both the Roslyn and Syosset Fitness Pro Shops generously donated Sportime raffle prizes for tennis lessons, court time and sensational massages. "Thanks to our supportive local business Sportime members and community friends," states Marlib Palevsky, "fabulous gifts were offered to our league ladies from Paul Anthony Aesthetics of Manhasset, Sorell and Salon Opus, Buonogusto, Maguro, Mells Karon Fabrics, Greenvale Electric Supply, Cristina's Restaurant in the Claremont Hotel, Health Touch Massage Center of Great Neck and Massage Works of Roslyn to note a few."

Raffling off 12 free lessons with club pros including manager/director of tennis John Rooney, League Coach Jason Strong, Peter Hoopes and many other favorite instructors sent the crowd into a frenzy. Dozens of league members personally donated raffle gifts such as plush pashminas, bountiful baskets and blouses galore, chocolate tennis treats and even a Reiki relaxation session. League singles and doubles player Rebecca Keen of Port Washington baked an originally designed tennis theme cake and presented it to Karen for all the ladies to savor. Cameras were flashing, colleagues were clapping, racquets were swinging and a fun day was had by all!

During the month of May, on the last day of each league, Roslyn's league director awarded a total of 44 trophies to recognize the outstanding achievements of ace tennis players. League champions, second place winners and, in the Friday Round Robin Doubles, third and fourth place shared the spotlight in Sportime's Circle of Champions.

To join the singles and/or doubles action for fall 2001 women's and men's leagues, Friday night mixed doubles, instructional Tennis Kinetics lessons or Junior Development programs call Sportime at Roslyn, 484-9222.
