It's post time. Round up your friends and family for a fabulous "Day at the Races" on Sunday, June 3, at noon, at Belmont Park Race Track in Elmont.
All funds collected will benefit the Richard Mark Smith Fund, which supports programs and projects of LIJ that benefit AIDS and cancer patients.
In recent years, the Fund has underwritten the purchase of VCRs and a broad selection of tapes; subscriptions to more than 30 popular magazines; and several portable telephones for use by patients and families. "All of our efforts are directed towards making the patients feel more comfortable during their extended treatments," said Laura Chase, sister of the late Richard Mark Smith of Roslyn.
The Richard Mark Smith Fund was established by the family and friends of the late Richard Mark Smith, who died in February 1990 at the age of 36. Established by his parents Blanche and Alvin Smith, and sisters Susan, Carol and Laura, contributions from the fund have helped support psychological counseling for AIDS and cancer patients lacking financial resources, said the family.
Those interested in learning more about the fund should call Laura Chase at 365-8812.
