The Roslyn Claremont Hotel recently celebrated its tenth anniversary of operations in the village. For the immediate future, the hotel hopes to make additions to its structure, located on 1221 Old Northern Blvd. Hotel officials are working with Village of Roslyn officials to gain approval on a new 2,000 sq. ft. Atrium and a 5,000 sq. ft. Ballroom/Conservatory. In addition, the hotel hopes to construct a new Terrace and a Nature Walk. The hotel wants to make the additions to meet increased space demands for various social events.
The Claremont is the creation of A. Alexander Lari, a commercial real estate developer in the New York City area. Along with his wife, Eileen, the couple hoped to build an establishment on smaller-scale property that would combine the amenities of the finest hotels with the intimacy and character of a great home.
A 22-year resident of Locust Valley, Ms. Lari said she always thought the Roslyn area needed a luxury hotel. As it turned out, the Lari family owned land in Roslyn off Old Northern Boulevard. That land eventually became the site of the Claremont Hotel. On the occasion of the hotel's anniversary, Ms. Lari said its success was due, in part, to its prime location. The hotel is not far from a major industrial park in Port Washington, one that attracts numerous business travelers each year. The Claremont is also within walking distance of the stores and restaurants on Roslyn's Old Northern Boulevard. The Harborview Golf Course in Port Washington makes the hotel close to another favorite activity for business travelers and vacationers.
Roslyn is also world headquarters for the Pall Corporation, another destination for out-of-state businessmen. In addition, the Claremont, Ms. Lari said, has proved to be a convenient place for people visiting relatives in the Roslyn area.
Thanks to its ballroom and The Claremont Room, the hotel has also earned a nationwide reputation as an ideal place for corporate clients to hold meetings and conferences. The hotel's Conference Suite, complete with its view of Roslyn Harbor, is a favorite among executives seeking surroundings that support a "think tank" atmosphere. "At the Claremont, all events can be hosted under one roof, in a setting with the same feel as a warm home," said Ms. Lari.
Every year, the hotel hosts a fund raiser and silent auction begun by former New York Knick and now Utah Jazz star, John Starks, the proceeds of which go to local charities. For years, the hotel hosted a similar event featuring former New York Jet quarterback Boomer Esaison, before the latter's celebrity forced a move to larger quarters.
