Village Tax Hike Unavoidable
The Village of Roslyn board of trustees approved their 2001-2002 budget at a public hearing last Wednesday night. Mayor John Durkin said the new budget, which saw a decrease in spending from the previous year was "realistic and will work." But, try as they might, the BOT could not prevent a small tax increase. The 2.99 percent increase was explained by BOT member Marshall Bernstein, who singled out sewage expenses as the budgetary item that made a zero tax increase impossible to achieve.

Balanced Budget for East Hills
Thanks to state funding for road repavement, along with restraints on spending and taxing issues, the Village of East Hills was able to produce a balanced budget for the 2001-2002 fiscal year.

Hilltop 5K Race a Huge Success
The first annual Roslyn Hilltop 5K Race, which took place on Sunday, April 22, was a great success. Several hundred people, including over 200 runners, attended the event. More than 50 neighborhood kids participated in the 1/2-mile Fun Run.
