The current Roslyn Board of Education will hold a public work session and a public budget hearing on Thursday, May 3, at 8 p.m. in the Administration Building Board Room. The community is encouraged to attend. Opportunity for guests to ask questions and provide input is provided at all board meetings. For information about some of the major agenda items, check the district web site at www.roslynschools.org several days before the board meeting.
Both the budget vote and trustee election will take place on Tuesday, May 15, in the gymnasium at Roslyn High School, located on Round Hill Road. Voting hours will be from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. For further information call 625-6303.
An open forum for candidates running for the Roslyn School Board will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at the Harbor Hill School Cafetorium. Harbor Hill is located on Glen Cove Road, just south of Northern Boulevard in Greenvale. The meeting is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Port Washington-Manhasset, which also includes Roslyn residents. A league member will moderate the discussion.
This year's candidates have been invited to the forum so that community members can hear prepared statements by each candidate and join in a question and answer period.
Those vying for the three open seats on the school board are Karen Bodner, Maryann Combs, incumbent BOE member Ronna Niederman, Linda Rosero and Jill Studley. The extra number of BOT positions up for grabs is due to the retirement of longtime board member Alvin Silverman and the resignation of another board member, Carol Margiritis.
