In the Roslyn Little League Major's division, the Beavers, on Pinpoint pitching from starter David Bayer and closer Alex Litt edged out the Red Sox 2-0. Each pitched three innings striking out a total of seven Red Sox batters allowing only two hits by Cole Charnas and Jake Hirsch. The Beavers were matched however by the combined pitching of Michael Haut, Ben Lomazow and Zach Stern.
The Red Sox pitchers permitted only two hits. Adam Kapner singled and later scored the winning run. Adam stole second and third bases and was driven home on a sharp line drive to center by Matt Silberman. The Beavers added an insurance run when Alex Litt walked in the fourth inning and stole second, third and home for what would be the final run of the game.
The Beavers played tight defense. Alex Korn held Cole Charnas of the Red Sox to a double on a frozen rope down the left field line. Alex quickly got the ball in to the infield. Cole was left on second. Blake Moskowitz, playing first base, Alex Goldklang and Jason Wilner sharing the duties at shortstop, Jamie Hanfling at second, and Jordan Smith at third base made outstanding plays contributing to the tight defense. Ben Wasserman catching did not allow a passed ball and prevented base runners from advancing.
This promises to be an exciting 2001 season.
