JILL STUDLEY

A 32-year resident of the Roslyn area, Jill Studley is now running as a candidate for a seat on the Roslyn School District's Board of Education.

Ms. Studley lists school safety and an emphasis on various arts programs as two major features of her candidacy. "In the current climate of violence in our nation's schools, safety will be a primary concern," she said. "I am impressed with what the district has implemented thus far and I will continue to focus on programs that confront and deal with these potential safety issues."

As someone who has worked in theater workshops both at the Heights School and at the Sid Jacobson JCC, Ms. Studley calls herself an advocate for programs and funding that help to perpetuate the arts in our school systems. "While it is important to educate our children through structured courses, we must remain aware that children can benefit and further develop by enhancing and bringing out their inner talents or simply their appreciation for fine arts and music."

In addition to supporting more funding for arts programs in the school district, Ms. Studley also likes the idea of funds for extracurricular activities such as school sports programs. She is glad that a junior varsity football program has been started for young athletes who hope to go on and play varsity football at the high school.

A graduate of the school district, Ms. Studley also graduated from New York University, where she earned a degree in Drama and Television. During her time as a resident in the Village of East Hills, Ms. Studley has been a vice president of The Strathmore Civic Association. She has also been chair of the Ways and Means Committee at both the Heights School and the East Hills Elementary School. For the past three years, Ms. Studley, who has been long involved in the PTA, has served as that body's president. In addition, she is currently chair of the District Committees for the Roslyn Middle School and a member of the Coordinating Council Parent Association. Outside of the school district, Ms. Studley has served on the Bryant Library Nominating Committee, which screens and nominates potential trustees.

Ms. Studley describes herself as a hard working individual. "When I commit to a project, I put forth maximum time, effort and enthusiasm," she said. "I believe that my sense of fair play and devotion will make me an asset to the Roslyn School Board. I just want the best for the district." Ms. Studley believes her experience at the PTA would come in handy as a board member.

Ms. Studley's two children both attend the Roslyn Schools. Her husband is an attorney currently serving as village prosecutor for East Hills.
