I have just received in the mail a 12-page brochure entitled "Roslyn Village Newsletter." It is misnamed. Rightfully it should be titled "The Janet Galante Picture Book."
The piece is opulently mounted...with 25 photographs resplendently produced in full color (most of them pictures with Mayor Galante), saddle stitched and printed on high gloss enamel paper stock - just about the best you can get!
The report speaks glowingly of the accomplishments of outbound Mayor Galante...a memorial plaque at Village Hall...a drive to stop delivery of announcements by our local merchants...a photo of Mayor Galante with Senator Schumer...Mayor Galante receiving an award from the Post Office. And, while a lovely pink ribbon is being tied around our village, nothing is said about the serious tax burden on the shoulders of every Roslyn resident - whether renter, co-op owner or home owner - and the urgent need therefore to watch every dollar that we spend!
Which brings me back to the newsletter. We used to get informative village reports printed on a photocopy machine, at minimum cost. The cost of publishing this newsletter in all of its splendor came, I understand, to about $3,500. There are about 1,200 families in Roslyn, so each family is paying almost three bucks for their copy of "The Galante Picture Book."
That's quite a legacy for the former mayor to leave Roslyn Village!
