This Tom Bows Out
After months of speculation on whether Nassau County Executive Thomas Gulotta would run for another term this November, Gulotta announced Tuesday that he will not seek re-election. After another nine months in the position he has held since 1987, Gulotta's tenure as Nassau chief executive office will come to an end.
End of An Era in Greenvale
This past weekend marked the end of the Ladyzinski family's business and personal association with the Village of Greenvale. It was no small affair. After opening in 1944, Alexander's Liquors, located on 32 Glen Cove Road, has shut its doors. More than that, it meant the end of an association with the village that lasted nearly the entire 20th century. Before Alexander's Liquors, the Ladyzinski family also operated both a general store and a dry goods store. Those establishments first opened in 1911.
Sportime Hosts Tennis Tournament
Sportime at Roslyn's Junior Tennis Tournaments, held on Feb. 23, were a big hit this season. After participating in a three day tennis mini-camp, many juniors showcased their newly honed skills in the 10 and Under, 12 and Under and Open tournaments. The competition was tight, so there were many close and well played matches. In the 10 and Under Tournament Final, Chad Levy defeated Peter Maxted to win the championship, with Brandon Hockhauser taking third place and David Karpas taking fourth place. In the 12 and Under Tournament Final, Max Silverstein defeated Nick Marmour to win the championship, with Danielle Bourget taking third place and Lance Hockhauser taking fourth place.
Little League Needs Umpires
The Roslyn Little League needs student umpires for weekday evenings and some weekends. The season begins March 31 and lasts until mid-June.
