What's the Catch?
Catching a ball or other object may seem an easy task to adults, but catching and pitching require a dexterity that young children have to acquire. A simple but ingenious fulcrum device helps Glenwood Landing kindergartners learn the art of catching on the fly. When they stomp on one end of the seesaw-like gimmick, they send a lightweight square airborne, a perfect opportunity to practice their catching skills. During the same gym class, students learn how to pitch by throwing beanbags at a target. Here, Daniel Grabher, (l), launches his missile and Ryan Mercandante gets ready for a catch.
