Week #3 started off with a bang, an electrical bang that shut down the Roslyn East Hills School gym for repairs. Special thanks to Mr. Wakefield and Mr. Briggs of the East Williston School District, Northside School who came to the Roslyn Booster Basketball League's rescue by loaning the league their school gym on one hour's notice. Talk about acting in the best interest of our kids! Coaches spent Friday night on the telephone alerting parents to the changes, and games were successfully rearranged. Bottom line - the games went on without a hitch. Rivalries have formed, and the excitement of playing in a new gym raised the league's competitiveness to a new level. Teams wanted to enter the winter break on a winning note and their effort on the court reflected that goal. The results:
Tigers vs. Cougars - The Tigers played with only five players and used a strategic slow-down offense to conserve their energy. Point guards Leah Heisler and Brooke Rubinstein controlled the ball, with Jamie Kaye, Rachel Bass, and Amy Levine crashing the boards to give the Tigers a first half lead. Not to be outdone, Cougar players Sammy Peters, Heather Karson and Skyler Cohen applied smothering defensive pressure, while Samantha Schawrtz and Katie Lombardo "played catch and shoot in the low post" to lead the Cougars to a last minute tie.
Jaguars vs. Panthers - Panther players Chante Kahlil, Emily Seyburn, Ariel Arouty and Devin Gaynor applied their "team rebounding philosophy" to "sweep the boards" and taken an early lead. Their effort was complimented by able ball handling by teammate Brittany Coren. Jaguars Hillary Smith, Bari Giller and Nikki Karol rose to the occasion in the second half with pressing defense and several quick baskets to end this exciting game in a tie.
Lions vs. Bobcats - In a much awaited meeting of pre-season favorites, this game lived up to everyone's expectations. The Bobcats set the game's early tempo with Ashley Breitner and Amanda Bader providing the rebounding. Amanda Katlowitz and Jennifer Chadroff providing the pressing defense. Lions combined great ball handling by Allie Silberman, Cory Sharfstein and Arielle Lubman, defensive rebounding by Sarah Loshak, Ricki Shenfeld and Alexis Schwartz, and slashing drives to the hoop by Lauren Grant and Alana Karnofsky to take control in the second half. What better way to end this nail biter but in a tie on a last minute lay up.

Yale (24) vs. Penn (13) - Yale took the early lead with Bari Resnick, Sara Sincof and Jenny Paulenoff picking the boards clean. Columbia regrouped in the second half - relying on strong defense by Liandra Aptekar, Samantha Cherif, Milli Mehta and scoring in the post by Rebecca Coper and Morgan Carella. Yale reached down deep with a second half surge led by scoring and ball handling by Alexandra Foukalas, Dara Bernstein, and Amanda Ryman which gave Yale a 24-13 victory.
Dartmouth (14) vs. Brown (12) - Talk about last second thrillers...Brown controlled the game for three quarters led by scoring drives by Rachel Abeles, Erica Scalavino and Alex Lewisohn and defensive pressure by Hallie Dunn and Nissa Ostroff-Moskowitz. Dartmouth took a fourth quarter time-out to regroup, and players Lauren Borowick, Maddi Weinstein, Elana Jaroff and Chelsea Taitelman returned to the court with orders to play glove defense. With less than one minute left Dartmouth players Hallie Bendell and Elyssa Goldberg crashed the boards and Laura Ilowite provided the winning basket with seven seconds left in the game. Dartmouth prevailed 14-12 as the gym erupted in cheers for both teams.
Princeton (12) vs. Penn (10) - Princeton took the early lead with Victoria Neu, Raquel Goldsmith and Andrea Adriasova crashing the boards. Penn rallied back to reclaim the backboards (Maddie Friedman, Remi Kent, Lauren Kober and Tracy Kitaeff providing the rebounding and scoring) and closed out the first with a small lead. Penn opened the second half with scoring by Marissa Ball and Allison Frey but Princeton was not to be denied. Princeton's Julie Glantz and Jessyca Shapiro led a fourth quarter rally by providing clutch scoring, and Erica Goldstick and Alexa Kreisberg provided the clutch defense to lead Princeton to a last minute 12-10 victory.
