Burton L. (Burt) Roslyn of Roslyn Heights has stated that he will seek election as commissioner of the Albertson Water District, a position to which he was appointed by the Town Board in October. He is running for the unexpired one-year term of former Commissioner Donald Ostrower, who recently resigned.

Mr. Roslyn stated, "I was pleased to be invited by Supervisor May Newburger and the town board to fill the vacancy that was created when former Commissioner Donald Ostrower decided to give up his seat. Don worked diligently for two years, as both a community resident and commissioner, to get the district moving in an honest and effective direction. I am proud that I have the opportunity to build on Don's accomplishments. I am also very pleased that Commissioner Irene Parrino, who was also appointed by the town board earlier this year to fill another vacancy, is running for election to her seat, which is for a full three-year term."

Mr. Roslyn has been a resident of the Roslyn Country Club community for almost 20 years. He and his wife Marian are the parents of Paul, who is attending Rice university, Marissa, a freshman at Tulane University, and Adam, a sophomore at The Wheatley School.

Mr. Roslyn is an elected trustee of the Shelter Rock Library District. He has been active in the affairs of the East Williston (Wheatley) School District, having served as member and chair of numerous committees, including the district's Budget Advisory Committee. He is a vice president of the East Williston School District Educational Foundation. Long active in the Roslyn Country Club Civic Association, he is currently serving as co-president of that organization. He and his family are long time members of Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation, which he has served as House Chairman.

Mr. Roslyn is best known to the community for his activities in youth soccer. For many years, he served on the executive board of the Albertson Soccer Club, including a four year stint as president from 1995 to 1999. He has also held leadership positions in the two main governing organizations of youth soccer, the Long Island Junior Soccer League (as the long time chair of the Referees Evaluation Committee) and the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (as administrator of its Olympic Development Program).

Albertson resident, Irene Parrino, who was appointed in February to fill a vacancy on the Board of Commissioners of the Albertson Water District, is seeking a full three-year term on the board in this year's election on Dec. 12.

Presently serving as the chairwoman of the board, Commissioner Parrino during her nine months in office has stressed the importance of establishing proper internal controls in the Water District.

Commissioner Parrino is an attorney with a law degree from New York Law School and a BS Degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. For the past six years, she has been in private practice representing clients in a broad range of civil matters. In addition, she is an administrative law judge for the New York City Transit Authority and the New York City Department of Finance. She has for many years participated in various pro-bono law projects, representing clients without fee in numerous civil legal matters.

In addition to her service with the Water District, Commissioner Parrino is vice president of operations of the Albertson Square Civic Association and a volunteer at Clark Botanical Gardens in Albertson.

"I am pleased to have been part of the progress in the Albertson Water District over the past year. I look forward to the opportunity of continuing my service, with the goals of maintaining community confidence in the Albertson Water District and ensuring that we provide a safe, dependable and plentiful water supply."

The election is on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Voting begins at 3 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. at the firehouse on IU Willets Road. So far, neither candidate is facing opposition for their respective positions.
