North Shore High School athletes were honored at the athletic department's annual end-of-year awards banquet. Those earning special awards were Tristan Cummins and Sophie Melniker, The Outstanding Athlete Award; Ben Blackburn and Valerie Williams, the North Shore Scholar/Athlete Award; Michael Weiner and Amy Seng, both the Coaches' Award and the US Army Scholar/Athlete Award. The Peter Swanson North Shore Soccer Club Scholarship Award went to Brian Esermio, Edwin Mora, Timothy Rescigno and Meagan Wick; the Scott Kurz Scholarship Award to Thomas Granieri; the T. J. Zebrowski Scholarship Award to Lianne Dictor, and the DiMaria Scholarship to Tristan Cummins.
All-County athletes were Elizabeth Savino, field hockey; Chris Pombar, basketball; Ed Lempenski, Mehrad Talaie and Victoria Rober, bowling; Claire Calzonetti and Sophie Melniker, lacrosse; Lauren Foundos, field hockey and softball; Brian Greig, winter and spring track; and Natasha Wolkow, spring track.
Spring award winners in the Most Valuable Player category were Emily Foster, softball; Tristan Cummins, men's lacrosse; Sophie Melniker, women's lacrosse; Terrence O'Neil, golf; Gabe Haim, men's tennis; Valerie Williams and Tracy Calzone, women's spring track; and Brian Greig, men's spring track.
Most Improved Players were Jeffrey Vitale and Michael Kusz, baseball; Lauren Van Vorst, softball; Brian Esernio, men's lacrosse; Patrick Friscia, men's tennis; and Nicholas Slobodskoy, men's spring track.
Honored for playing anywhere from eight to 12 sports seasons during their high school career were Brian Esernio, Kevin Jensen, Ben Blackburn, Jamie Blundell, Thomas Granieri, Timothy Rescigno, Diana De Clemente, Kristen Koczen, Sophie Melniker, Erica Stanco, Glenn Aprile, Matthew Popkin, Michael Weiner, Janine Gasser, Valerie Williams, John Capobianco, Tristen Cummins, Richard Dennis, Craig Gebhard, Edwin Mora, Robert Napolitano, Jon Peet, Jessica French, Amy Seng, Kirsten Waage, and Meagan Wick.
Moving Up Day Physical Education Award winners were Janine Gasser and Thomas Granieri. In a special tribute to seniors, athletic director Laura Orticelle said, "As you take a giant step into the future to experience new and exciting adventures, it is our hope that through athletics you have learned a respect for sport, your teammates and opponents, and yourselves; that you have learned to work with others to accomplish common goals; that you have been able to share with others your joys and disappointments; that you take away with you the friendships and memories that will last a lifetime, and that you will use all that you have learned to help build your future."
