SchoolSports.com, the leading high school sports web site, recently announced that Robert Shaw, a senior at Roslyn High School, is one of the 10 top student correspondents who has been awarded a $1,000 college scholarship. SchoolSports.com gives high school students the opportunity to gain valuable experience by developing their writing and reporting skills and Shaw has provided superior coverage of his high school's athletic teams.
Shaw's winning article entitled, "Fans Are Off Their Rocker" reports on the player-fan relationship, including the taunting of athletes and the John Rocker situation.
"A critical component of our relationship with schools is our ability to foster an environment where high school teens can contribute, learn, and grow through their participation in our student correspondent program," said Mora Segal, vice president and national director of the SchoolSports Network of High Schools. "In awarding the scholarships, the SchoolSports editorial team looked for student correspondents who managed to go beyond the basics to tell a compelling story. We were looking for writing that would appeal to both the author's school community and to a larger audience as well."
SchoolSports has the largest professional staff of writers, editors, and photographers covering high school sports and features community-generated content from student correspondents, coaches, parents and administrators. Currently, more than 4,000 high school students and other community members nationwide contribute information including articles, photographs and statistics to celebrate the accomplishments of their high school sports programs.
