National Guard Sale Near Completion
In his annual State of the Village message to local residents, East Hills Mayor Michael R. Koblenz stated that the purchase of the Air National Guard property by the village is in its final stages. The village is only waiting for final approval by a Congressional committee in Washington. Mayor Koblenz and the BOT expect the village to close on the property "as soon as possible thereafter; but at some point during the year."

Mets Clobber Dodgers
It was opening day for the 2000 Roslyn Little League season in the girls softball, ages 11-12. The Mets prevailed against the Dodgers in a 24-6 victory. Defensive play was led by Kerry Zimmerman who pitched three strong innings with her battery mate Madelyn Berger. Sparkling defensive play included a double play initiated by Malorie Simons and a spectacular catch at second by Brittany Robbins. Offensive highlights included a line drive double by Taylor Yablon, a 3 RBI single by Alex Kauffman and two grand slam homers by Johanna Weiss. All the kids on both teams played well and showed surprisingly little rust after a long off-season and a short spring training.

Tigers Top Giants
The Roslyn Girls Softball "pro division" season launched its new season last week with the Tigers defeating the Giants. Strong pitching by Sara Gluck and Caroline Dean outlasted efforts by last year's powerhouse duo of Carly Miller and Rachel Karnofsky. The game was an early seesaw battle until the Tigers unleashed a display of power hitting led by Alix Hirsch and company. Alex Brown turned off a potential rally with a sterling play on a hard shot up the middle. The final score was 11-4, but the game was closer than the score indicated.
