Why is it that as children growing up, our parents teach us that if you have nothing good to say, then you shouldn't say anything at all, yet as adults who bestow the same wisdom on our children, we seem to forget that it still pertains to us as well?
It would seem that here in Roslyn, we get something quite similar to the "seven year itch" that pops up in every marriage. We saw this when Terry Morabito and Pia Riverso tried to challenge the Pasnik Administration. Suddenly, letters began to appear in The Roslyn News, accusing them of everything from pot smoking to civic insensitivity. Now six years later, some of the letters I've been reading could have the same dateline.
With the exception of a similar theme that on appearance there may exist this lack of sensitivity, where are the real issues?
I recall that letters like these resulted in actually the opposite effect of their intent, Pasnik won by a landslide.
Issues should be the only issue, not personality differences. Our differences are what make us good administrators. Our differences are what make us concerned or unconcerned citizens. Issues and solutions are the only real fabric of a good political campaign and there seems to be only one real issue here and it is clearly this.
Marshall Bernstein shouldn't be re-elected simply because in the minds of some people Janet Galante is a bad mayor. Marshall Bernstein should be re-elected because he is a good trustee and in my opinion, should never have been put in such an awkward situation to begin with.
