Re: Louise McCann's letter to the editor in last week's issue, it is interesting that she chooses to respond to the Bells' letter of Feb. 10 by solely addressing the narrow issue of the village's responsibility toward sidewalk repair. The Bells were founding members of the Clock Tower Party over 40 years ago. Their letter laments how the "...board meetings are anything but friendly or welcoming. They are run rather like a military court." They also cite how some on the board have managed to alienate many segments of our community, specifically the volunteer fire department. And of course, when the Clock Tower Party failed to re-nominate Trustee Marshall Bernstein "...after he had voted against longer terms and more money in an independent vote on the board..." many in the village felt it was time for a new party.

Trustee McCann has nothing to say about any of these issues, which is not surprising because she cannot dispute the facts. McCann's answer to the Bells' letter is indicative of her insensitivity to what really concerns Roslyn residents. We want trustees that will work with everyone in the community not lecture us, treat residents as adversaries or narrowly interpret the law when there is a problem. Yes, we know it's the responsibility of each homeowner to maintain the sidewalks in front of their homes but maybe there needs to be a little flexibility in the application of the law, especially for those on fixed incomes.

What we cannot understand is why Ms. McCann wants to be a trustee. She misses by far more meetings than any other trustee and she refused to allow any resident to call her at home to discuss village business. She claims in the article in last week's Roslyn News that she and Wayne Mart are "...independent people who will not be controlled by any other BOT members..." yet we challenge Trustee McCann to show us one time that she ever voted on any issue differently than the mayor. Other than to vote with Mayor Galante what is she doing on the board?
