It was revealed at the last Village of Roslyn meeting that the Roslyn Rescue Fire Company has purchased a new building. The building is located on 155 Mineola Avenue in Roslyn Heights and was bought at a cost of $925,000.

In addition, Roslyn Rescue has put its building on Old Northern Boulevard on the market for sale. The fire company is currently asking $1.3 million for the sale of the building.

The developments came up during public discussions with the Village of Roslyn Board of Trustees regarding the fire company budget. Roslyn Rescue Chief Allan Schlawberg admitted that the Village of Roslyn Harbor wants his company to take the Old Northern Boulevard building off the market, while Roslyn Rescue remains committed to selling the building. Last fall, Roslyn Harbor briefly considered having the Glenwood Volunteers as its new fire company, citing costs and response time from the Roslyn fire stations.

Mr. Schlawberg said the building on Old Northern Boulevard was "not helping the village [of Roslyn] on a day-to-day basis." Mayor Janet Galante then cited a recent fire on Old Northern Boulevard itself, a main gas line explosion that needed the services of the fire companies.

On budgetary matters, Mr. Schlawberg said the Roslyn Rescue budget request for this fiscal year was in line with other fire companies in the Town of North Hempstead. Trustee Marshall Bernstein noted that budget increases have, at least, decreased in recent years. In the 1998-99 budget, the fire budget increased by 10 percent. Last year, the increase was 5 percent.
