Since the citizens of Roslyn have organized the new Roslyn Community Party, the recent shenanigans of the Clock Tower Party Nominating Committee are now largely irrelevant. I wish to respond, however, to the curious statement of the Clock Tower Party's chairwoman, Carolyn Weber, as quoted in the Jan. 6 Roslyn News.

Ms. Weber is quoted as saying it is "hard to believe" that the Party Nominating Committee was stacked against my husband, Marshall E. Bernstein, because I served on that committee. Actually, it is quite easy to believe: the committee consisted of five persons, one of whom was Ms. Weber herself and two of whom were hand-picked by her without a vote by the party members. The greatest fear of Mayor Galante, of course, is that a person not dominated by her (such as Marshal Bernstein) would continue to serve as village trustee. In this foolish endeavor, which has caused an unfortunate and totally unnecessary schism in the village, Carolyn Weber and her disciples were the mayor's willing allies.
