The Roslyn Highlands Fire Department drill team, the "Highlanders," finished the 1999 drill season with an astounding array of over 65 trophies. The Highlanders placed (coming in first through fifth) for total points in seven out of the 11 tournaments they participated in this past summer. They finished the year winning a fifth place spot in total points overall.
Our firefighters on the drill team practice two sometimes three nights a week. Their tournaments run on Saturdays, with their day starting as early as 6 a.m. to set up and prepare for the days events. (They take on this challenge while still maintaining their tasks as active firefighters within the department). As many as 25-30 other fire departments on Long Island attend as well to see who has the fastest ladder climber, the best nozzle man, as well as the best manager to keep the crew together to win. The Highlanders are lucky to still have Ex-Chief Bob Larsen as their manager for over 25 years.

The Highlanders also sponsor a "juniors" drill team, that consists of our "younger members" ages 8-16.
