Roslyn Students Win MLK Essay Contests
Four Roslyn High School students were winners in various Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contests. Andrew Hertz won first place in The Urban League of Long Island/Clarence R. Hart Memorial Senior Essay Contest. English Department Chairperson Dr. Donald Morrongiello wrote in a congratulatory letter to Andrew, "Your piece was a sensitive tribute to the understated power of Dr. King, his importance for all Americans, and the implications of his beliefs even '31 years after his death.'"

Legislature Repeals Transfer Tax
Four months after a Republican-led Legislature instituted the one percent real-estate-transfer tax to help close the county's budget deficit, the GOP lawmakers acted alone last Wednesday in repealing the unpopular tax.

More Belt Promotions
Twenty-two students at Master Charles Water's Hwang Karate Studio, located at 122 Hillside Avenue in Williston Park, have received belt promotions after successfully completing a series of extensive exams. The students were evaluated on their physical skill as well as the character discipline required of the martial arts.

Winter Harbor Links Tours Available
Whether you play golf or not, the Town of North Hempstead invites its residents living in the Roslyn area to a tour of the facilities on Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. The tour will take approximately an hour and residents will have an opportunity to see and hear about Harbor Links and its 18-hole championship course, executive 9-hole course, miniature golf, driving range, pro-shop. Plus, they will have an opportunity to tour the four new soccer athletic fields.
