Marciano (Marchie) Grella, of Roslyn, died on Nov. 17, 1999. He was the proprietor of of the Mobil Service Station of Roslyn for 50 years. He was an honorary member of Roslyn Rescue, the Brookville Country Club, John W. Mackey Council K of C and a former Roslyn Little League coach. Husband of Jean (Vaughan). Father of Anna DeRienzo, Robert Grella (Barbara), Marcia Ring (James) and Noreen Grella. Brother of Domenick (Mary), Alfred (Alma), the late Angelina Noviello, Mary, Louis, Rocco and Jerry. Grandfather of James, Michele and Allison Ring, Christopher and Michael Grella. Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Roslyn Heights Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church. Interment Roslyn Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Heart Association.
Hilde Ulm, of Albertson, died on Nov. 25, 1999. She was a member of the Liederkranz Choral Group of Franklin Square. Wife of the late William. Mother of Richard (Janet), Eric (Helen) and Gerhard (Joanne). Grandmother of 11. Great-grandmother of 13.Arrangements were made by the Cecere Funeral Home, Westbury. Nelson Weimer Fry, MD, 85, of The Fountains, Millbrook, NY, a resident of Roslyn Heights for 49 years, died on Nov. 20, 1999. He was born in Mechanicville, NY on March 3, 1914, the son of Ambrose Fry and Edith Weimer. He graduated from Columbia College and LI College of Medicine. He served his internship at Meadowbrook Hospital from 1939 to 1941. He joined the US Army in 1941, spent nine months at Fort Bragg in the infantry. He was then sent to Keisler Field, Biloxi, MS in the US Army Corps. for the duration of the war. He graduated from the School of Tropical Medicine in Washington, DC in September 1945 with the rank of Capt. MD.
Dr. Fry married Margaret Moest on Dec. 27, 1941. He set up practice in Roslyn Heights as a medical doctor. He was physician for the Roslyn Heights School District for 40 years. He was past president of the Roslyn Rotary, treasurer/vice president of James A. Lyons American Legion Post, he organized the Roslyn American Legion Band, was a police surgeon for the NC 6th Precinct, past choir member of every church he attended. He was also an avid bridge player and a 50-year member of the Duplicate Bridge Club. He was a member of the Lyall Memorial Federated Church.
Dr. Fry retired in 1983. He moved to a retirement community in Millbrook in 1994. He is survived by his wife Margaret; his children, Dr. Nancy Fasano Stepsis of Grantham, England, Patricia Kennedy of Jacksonville, FL, and Ruth Slezak of Springdale, AZ; and five grandchildren. Arrangements were made by the Allen Funeral Home, Millbrook. Memorial service in the Chapel at the Fountains with Rev. Karl Esmark officiating. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.
