Jonathan Jame and his sister, Lisa, recently scored a first by becoming, respectively, Men's and Ladies Club Champs at a tournament at Engineers Country Club in Roslyn Harbor.
Both grew up in Roslyn and are graduates of Roslyn High School. They scored a sibling success on the historic Engineers golf course, which was built in 1917 and where the great Bobby Jones once played.
Lisa Jame, who was also Club Champ in 1998, represented Engineers on the Met Team of Long Island. Lisa has only been playing golf for five years. She is currently regional vice president for the Mid-Atlantic for the Ann Taylor stores.
Her younger brother Jonathan was a member of the Roslyn High School golf squad during the 1980s. He later played in both the American Junior Golf Association and at the University of Maryland. In 1989, he and his cousin, Adam Spring, also a Roslyn High School graduate, won the Anderson Memorial Tournament. In 1990, Jonathan won the Long Island Amateur Championship and later played on professional tours in both Canada and Florida. Recently, he placed 16th in the Metropolitan Open. Now, he is regaining his amateur status while working as an insurance agent with National Life of Vermont in New York City.
Jonathan faced tough opposition against Eddie Gibstein, a prominent amateur in the metropolitan area and winner of the Richardson Invitational Tournament. On the first hole of sudden death, Jonathan missed scoring an eagle by a mere two inches, but he still proved victorious.
