At its most recent meeting, the Village of East Hills Board of Trustees adopted a resolution in support of a renovation project designed to re-establish the historic Clarence Mackay tree line located at the west side of Glen Cove Road between Edgewood Lane and Harbor Hill Road.

The village is seeking a grant from the Transportation Enhancement Program administered by the New York State Department of Transportation to help with the renovation project. If the village is successful in receiving the grant, then money from the village budget will also be used to re-establish the tree line.

The resolution also noted the project "will highlight the history of our community while increasing safety for vehicle traffic."

The Mackay house is one of the more prominent of all the historic houses in the Roslyn area and is part of the annual house tour conducted by the Roslyn Historical Society.

In other news, the BOT awarded its 1999 Tree Contract to Harder Tree Service in the amount of $3,180. A resolution to approve a mechanical street sweeper proposal by Sam Allen's Modern Machinery, Inc. was tabled for further discussion at a future meeting.

In its work session, the BOT also discussed draft reports of a residential bulk regulations study prepared by the consulting firm of Frederick P. Clark Associates. The study is in connection with any further revisions of the village's building code.

In April, the BOT unanimously approved a building moratorium on new construction and certain renovations throughout the residential areas of East Hills. Village officials said that after the moratorium was enacted, the BOT might also consider amendments to the zoning code to restrict the bulk and height of any houses being constructed in East Hills. The next village meeting is Monday, July 19 at 8:30 p.m.
