I am voting no on the School Budget Proposition III. This proposition only adds insult to injury. It proposes that we taxpayers spend $75,000 each year for two years ($150,000) to transport all K-8 students to school during the widening of the LIE.

It will be extremely disrupting to everyone in all of our villages once the work begins. But the DOT, which is famous for delays, has not told us when that will be. Therefore, we are taking taxpayer money better spent on programming and allowing the DOT to go scot-free of any obligation to reimburse us for this cost.

It would be far better to continue to apply pressure on the DOT to guarantee to pay these charges. When the work does begin we can re-schedule the student pickups. All children going to the Middle School living north of the LIE and all those who attend East Hills or the high school who live south of the LIE could be bused.

Vote no on Proposition III!
