On May 6, the Roslyn Board of Education appointed Mary Liguori as the new principal of the Harbor Hill School. She will replace Stephen Wachenfeld, who is retiring as of the end of the current school year.
Ms. Liguroi has been assistant principal at Harbor Hill since 1995 and held the same position at the East Hills School from 1993 to 1995. Prior to coming to Roslyn she spent 14 years in the Levittown Public Schools where she worked as a remedial math and reading teacher, third-grade teacher and lead teacher of her elementary school.
During her six years in Roslyn, she has played a central role in the development and implementation of a number of important programs and activities in our elementary schools, including the RISE mentoring program, conflict resolution program, elementary foreign language, inclusion for special education students, fourth grade Roslyn historical tour and the "Learn Not to Burn" fire safety program. She has also been instrumental in the implementation of the state's new academic standards and assessments. Ms. Liguori has also created a professional development program for lunchroom and playground monitors.
