The Roslyn Fire Companies, for the first time in many years, will be noticeably absent from the May 30 Village of Roslyn-Memorial Day Parade. The reasons for this are several, mostly because of the seeming lack of support and general lack of regard demonstrated towards the Fire Companies by Mayor Janet Galante.

Our decision not to participate in this community event did not come easily nor is it being taken lightly by the memberships of both companies. Despite our withdrawal from the actual parade, it is not our intention to detract, in any way, from the meaning of Memorial Day or to dilute its historical significance. Therefore, we would like to salute, from afar, all of the fallen soldiers who deserve this time to be honored for their heroism and courage. It is our responsibility, as Americans, to preserve the causes for which they fought.
