The Roslyn High School varsity boys eight-game Conference B-V winning streak came to an end last Wednesday when the Bulldogs lost a 70-66 overtime contest at Seaford.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs finished the week with a 9-2 record in the conference and a 13-3 total overall. At week's end, they led the B-V Conference by a half game over Seaford.
Roslyn wrapped up their robust 1998-99 regular season with a Wednesday night away game at Island Trees.
The Bulldogs led throughout much of the contest with Seaford, carrying a 45-39 lead going into the final quarter. But Seaford battled back, tying the game on a three point shot by Charles Margiasso with only two seconds left in regulation. Seaford then outscored Roslyn in overtime, 12-8 to take the victory.
Bentley Mays led Roslyn with 20 points. Other Bulldogs in double figures were Steven Glasco (19 points) and Curtis Mays (13 points). Bentley Mays and Jamie Goldstein both sank two three-point goals.
The Bulldogs began the busy week with a dramatic, come-from-behind away victory at Manhasset on Feb. 1. That win padded Roslyn's B-V Conference lead to two games.
After leading at halftime by a 28-22 score, the Bulldogs fell behind in the third quarter as Manhasset outscored the visitors by a 21-7 margin. But in the final quarter, the Bulldogs turned the tables, outscoring Manhasset 20-11 to pull out a 55-54 victory.
Once again, the Bulldogs were paced by the scoring duo of Bentley Mays and Steven Glasco. Mays led the way with 22 points, while Glasco chipped in 14. No other Bulldog was in double figures. Mays got his 22 points on only nine field goals. His shooting included three three-point goals, a season high.
In the Sewanhaka victory, Bentley Mays had 20 points, followed by Steven Glasco with 12 points and 18 rebounds. Adam Wellner joined the two in double figures, scoring 12 points.
The week ended Monday evening with a loss at home to Manhasset, 45-43. Steven Glasco had 22 points for the Bulldogs, who lost an eight-point lead in the final quarter.
