The Roslyn High School varsity boys basketball team continued their winning ways last week with two solid victories over their conference "B-V" rivals. The two wins upped Roslyn's record for the 1998-99 season to 7-1, one of the squad's fastest starts in recent years.
The Bulldogs started the week with an easy 73-58 victory over Valley Stream South.
Senior center Steven Glasco led the scoring attack with a season-high 30 points. He was joined in double figures by guard Bentley Mays, who finished with 14 points.
Playing on the road, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-12 first quarter lead. They padded that margin by outscoring Valley Stream by identical 18-13 margins in both the second and third quarters.
Returning home for a rare Saturday morning tip-off time of 10 a.m., the Bulldogs defeated Island Trees, 55-46.
After trailing at halftime by a 27-24 margin, the Bulldogs put the clamps on Island Tree's offense in the third quarter, holding the visitors to only three points. Roslyn tallied 16 points in the third quarter, led again by Glasco and Mays, both of whom scored six points as the Bulldogs built a 40-30 lead.
Both Glasco and Mays had double figures in scoring and rebounding. Glasco had 22 points and 13 rebounds, while Mays scored 11 points and pulled down the same number of rebounds.
Assisting Glasco and Mays in the scoring department was senior Benjamin Sahn who had 11 points on five field goals and Jamie Goldstein, whose nine points included one three-pointer.
