The Roslyn High School wrestling team opens up their varsity season this weekend at the Uniondale Invitational Tournament. The Bulldogs will be one of 14 teams participating in this competition and look to start their year off on a strong note.

"This is the first time in many years that we have solid numbers in our program," said head coach Andy Marlow. "We return three All-Division wrestlers, a dozen varsity letterman from last year, and a number of tough newcomers looking to establish themselves for the first time"

The Roslyn lineup is well balanced from top to bottom and features several strong wrestlers.

96 - 103 lbs. Chris Murray will handle the job at these weights. He is a quick and scrappy competitor with a great future for the sport. Coach Marlow looks for steady improvement from him as the year progresses.

112 - 125 lbs. Roslyn should be tough here with senior leader Dan Kessler. Kessler was conference runnerup last year and may prove to be one of the best in Nassau this season. "Danny has all the tools to be the best," noted Marlow. "He just needs to keep working hard and continue his commitment level." Junior Adam Panzer also returns after an unbeaten junior varsity season. "Adam has as much talent and toughness as anyone I've ever seen," said Marlow. "He can write his own ticket in this sport if he works real hard." Mike Kessler, last year's JV county champion, and Mike Schwartz (.500 on varsity last season) are fierce and determined competitors who could do some big winning this year for the Bulldogs. Freshmen Marc Goldstein and James Lowder also look very promising.

130 - 140 lbs. Dave Barash and Arsalan Moulana anchor these weights. Both wrestlers were solid performers last year and have greatly improved. "Barash is one of our slickest wrestlers and Moulana is one of our most intense. Both are capable of getting the pin and both know how to win. I like our chances here," said the coach. Junior Stuart Cohen also returns and it is looking like a big year is within his grasp. New wrestlers Ryan Borg and Jeremy Sedrish bring good toughness and athletic ability to the team.

145 - 160 lbs. - The Bulldogs are real strong here with seniors Alex Gross, Sam Hoffman, and junior Terry Tan. Gross is an exciting competitor and the team's best pinner. He should have a great year ahead of him. Hoffman is All-Division and a proven winner and Tan is a physically explosive wrestler with great potential. "These guys are capable of great things this year. I look forward to great seasons from them," added Marlow. Football players Eric Hsiao, Sunny Kakwani, Marc Miller, Patrick Romanello and Jared Kleinman all bring strength and power to the team and should progress rapidly as they learn the techniques.

171 - 189 lbs. - Junior Bill Caruso resides here and should be tough. Caruso is capable of pulling out the clutch win and should be a consistent winner this year. Newcomer Ian Wallach brings toughness and a hard nosed mentality to the team and could have immediate impact. Sophomore Dan Baradarian is back and looking sharp. He could prove to be a valuable wrestler for the Bulldogs this year. Eric Krantz is also looking good and is expected to contribute.

215 - 275 lbs. - Big Justin Glazer returns for his senior campaign. All-Division last year, Glazer is looking to up his status and prove himself to be one of Nassau's best big men. Heavyweights Mark Dreyfuss, Larry Kurtzman, and Nick Benetos have all been working hard and should have successful years.

Roslyn's first home dual is against Cold Spring Harbor Tuesday, December 22.
