While putting his key in the front door, a 24-year-old tenant of a second floor Roslyn Road residence was shot in the left forearm and abdomen with a single bullet at around 8:32 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23.
The suspect used what is believed to be a high powered/ high velocity rifle fired from the victim's East Williston residence driveway.
Immediately after the shooting witnesses claimed to see a male suspect bent over in a yard on Brown Street, just north of the victim's rear yard placing an unknown object into a long bag.
According to witnesses, the suspect had allegedly loaded the weapon into the same bag and fled the scene walking east on Brown Street.
The suspect is approximately 5' 3" and was wearing a dark beret and a green jacket. One woman described him as "possibly Oriental."
The motive is unknown, but after questioning the victim and his family, gang involvement has been ruled out for the time being, said Third Squad Detective John Lavelle.
"This doesn't follow the usual pattern of gang shootings. Gang shootings are usually done with handguns or as drive-bys. None of them have been done in this ambush type of situation," he said.
The victim now rests in Winthrop-University Hospital where he is in critical but stable condition.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
