Mother of Barbara Bialobrzeski, Diane Brzezinski, Jack and Rich Bialobrzeski. Grandmother of Dianne, Denise, Jennifer, Linda and J.D. Mother-in-law of Stan Brzezinksi. Steven J. Dziomba, of Albertson, died on Aug. 23, 1998. Veteran of WWII Normandy. Husband of the late Gizella. Brother of Charles, Anthony and John Dziomba. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Ted Kaufmann, 86, of "Bewilderness" in North River, NY, formerly of Roslyn Heights, passed away on Aug. 25, 1998. Ted was best known as a master dowser (water diviner) not only for traditional water location, but also for missing persons, lost objects and pet searches. An account of his succussful search for two missing men found in Lake George was featured on 20/20, Vermont ETV and Discovery Channel's Strange But True. He was often a guest on late night talk radio and appeared on To Tell The Truth. He dubbed himself the "Madison Avenue Dowser" after tracking the original course of Minetta Stream in Manhattan and locating underground pipes for construction crews.
Before retiring in the 1970s he had his own advertising agency, The Median Corporation on LI and prepared promotional and public relations events, the most famous being the "Cow Bra," an udder support for dairy cows, which made national news with a humorous twist.
When in the US Army he was first lieutenant in charge of purchasing machinery for bakery and food preparation.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn; three daughters, Kate Hickok Feldman and her husband John, Julie Kaufmann and Deborah Kaufmann and her husband Garry Nichols; and three grandchildren, Heather Hickok Ferguson, Andrew Hickok and Rafer Nichols.
An all-day memorial celebration will be held at his home in North River Oct. 4. Donations can be made to the Scholarship Fund, American Society of Dowsers, Danville, VT. 05828-0024 in Mr. Kaurmann's name.
