Robert L. Harrison of East Meadow will read his baseball poetry on Aug. 15 at the Cedarmere estate of William Cullen Bryant in Roslyn Harbor.
Mr. Harrison has written a baseball poetry book, Green Fields and White Lines and was part of the Grammy-nominated audio of "Grow Old Along With Me" in 1996. His poetry can be found in many anthologies, including Ted Williams: A Tribute, Slam Dunk, At The Crack of The Bat, Mudville Diaries, Spitball, and most recently, Generation to Generation. The Aug. 15 reading will take place at 3 p.m.
In recent years, Mr. Harrison has presented readings at various Long Island locations, including Abbey Lane School, Borders Books and Music, and Hofstra University. His other books of poetry include Alex Weissman At The Asylum and Finding Casey's Card.
Organizations that have given awards to Mr. Harrison include Dalton Books, Hofstra University's Babe Ruth Conference, New England Woodcarving and Wildlife Exposition, Newsday Sports Poetry Contest, Planting Fields Photo Contest, Rockville Centre Guild, South Nassau Community Hospitals and the Town of Hempstead. Copies of his works are available at the Polytechnic University Library in Farmingdale.
