Roslyn Village official, Marlene H. Freeman, has announced she will not finish her term as deputy mayor. Calling it a "privilege and an honor to have served as your deputy mayor," she said she will no longer be eligible to serve because she and her husband, Dr. Leonard Freeman, will have their primary residence in New York City in September. Her final BOT meeting will be July 21.
The Freemans lived on the East side of Manhattan before moving to Roslyn 29 years ago, and planned to move back when their youngest child, Joy, went to college. Joy will be a freshman at Emory University in August. "Village law prescribes elected officials must reside in their villages," Deputy Mayor Freeman said.
"It has been extremely gratifying to have had the opportunity to be part of a team of dedicated volunteer residents, specifically the members of the BOT, Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning Board and Historic District Board as well as the Civic Association leaders who have worked hard to maintain and improve the quality of life for other village residents."
She expressed a special "thank you" to Kay Cunningham, Linda Clark, David De Rienzis, Mary Searson, Barbara Frislid and Sandra Rodman, the village employees with whom she communicated on a daily basis for so many years.
"I have enjoyed being a member of the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals before being elected trustee," Deputy Mayor Freeman continued, "Working with Mayor Janet Galante has proven to be stimulating, complex, time consuming and very rewarding. My fellow trustees, Nolan Myerson, John Durkin and Marshall Bernstein, all share my love and protective feeling towards the village. I will continue my subscription to the Roslyn News and continue to have a rapport with the mayor and trustees. Life is filled with so many passages, and we are about to embark upon a new one. While I look forward to it, I continue to have great hope and concern for the welfare of our village!"
Marlene Freeman and her daughter, Joy, were elected to the Town of North Hempstead's Roll of Honor this year.
