The chilly temps this past weekend only spurred on our favorite girls in blue as they won back-to-back games. Parents donned their wooly scarves, hats and gloves to fend off the cold and cheer on the Avalanche!

Saturday's game vs. Lindenhurst at Wheatley High School was the second round in the Waldbaum's Cup. With a strategic plan set into motion, Coaches Flaherty and Quigg rallied the girls and chalked up yet another win, 5-2, once again advancing the Avalanche to the next round.

Although Sunday was somewhat sunnier, the temperature still proved to be quite frosty as the Avalanche vied in the first round of the State Cup vs. West Hempstead on their home turf. This time the competition was much tougher, with West Hempstead scoring first. A quick come back goal left it tied at the half and the mighty foot of one of our best midfielders booted in the another goal in the second half. The finally tally, Avalanche 2, West Hempstead 1. You guessed it, Avalanche advances to the next round of the State Cup competition.

Anyone would agree having all these "W's" is great, but more importantly, under the supervision of John Flaherty and Rosie Quigg, the girls are showing real teamwork and team spirit. As the Avalanche moves on they will undoubtedly face stiffer competition and good or bad, win or lose, your correspondent will be on hand to bring all the news back! Stay tuned!
