Roslyn High School teacher Jennifer DiPietro is the recipient of the 2012-2013 Gold Star Teacher Award. Her class achieved a 90 percent pass rate on the WISE Financial Literacy Certification Test. Gold Star Teachers are honored at W!SE’s annual MoneyPower Conference for Financial Literacy in New York City on Nov. 5. Roslyn High School Principal Dr. Scott Andrews said, “Congratulations on your students’ success. Your preparation was stellar.”

It is widely known that the day after Thanksgiving, “Black Friday,” is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. But since 2010, “Small Business Saturday” has become an increasingly popular day for both consumers and local mom-and-pop stores. The Village of Roslyn was bustling this past Saturday as shoppers took advantage of discounted prices and free parking in the downtown area.
“We have been busy all day,” said Jill Scherer, owner of Jill Scherer Ltd, a boutique that sells women’s clothes, makeup and gifts. “Since we opened this morning we’ve had a lot of customers come in to take advantage of our discounted items on sale.”

Over a decade ago, and in response to the Stop & Shop controversy, the Village of Roslyn Board of Trustees drafted and approved a Master Plan for future village construction.
Now, the village is taking another step forward in realizing a coherent development plan, this one concerning downtown Roslyn. At the November meeting, the board began discussions on amendments to the municipal code to create both a Waterfront Development Overlay District and a Waterfront Mixed Use District.

Now that the Roslyn Bulldogs football season is over, let’s review some final numbers for that championship season.
All year long, the Bulldogs’ explosive offense relied on the heroics of quarterback Adam Combs, plus running backs Thomas Davis, Alex Epprecht and Chris Snipes and wide receiver Isaiah Hunter.
On the ground, Davis had 626 yards on 84 carries, while Snipes was close behind with 558 yards on 83 attempts. Senior star Alex Epprecht pitched in with 290 yards on 35 carries, while Combs, a threat both running and passing had 66 yards on 20 rushes. Davis and Epprecht had four touchdowns, while Snipes hit pay dirt three times.

It’s not just the Roslyn High School football team that had a great year this past fall,
The Roslyn Marching Bulldogs continued to add to their reputation as one of the top high school bands in the New York metropolitan area.
