‘Lady Legends’ Win Little League Championship

As the summer comes to an end so does the season for the Port Washington “Lady Legends” 12U softball travel team.

Sponsored by the Port Washington Youth Activities (PYA), with its facilities located off of Glen Lane in Port Washington, the 12U team won the Little League District 28 Championship by defeating Albertson-Herricks. This was a great achievement for the “Lady Legends” who went on to represent PYA at the Long Island Championship and in the Glen Cove Mayor’s Trophy Tournament.

PYA Executive Director Ronnie Henderson commented, “The girls worked hard all season long and winning the District 28 Championship was proof of the efforts by the girls and coaches. We have a great softball program at PYA and these girls are proof of that.”

The girls are local players, many of whom also participate on their school’s teams.  Congratulations to players, Maddie Armistead, Emily Cavallaro, Sarah Cavallaro, Cat Cuneo, Hannah Contino, Lauren Giacalone, Haley Lustbader, Caitlin Maley, Olivia McCormick, Julia Russo, Sophie Roth and Hannah Roth; Head Coach Dave Giacalone and Assistant Coaches Paul Giacalone and Dave Maley.

PYA Fall Softball starts the Saturday after Labor Day and is open to all girls in Kindergarten through 7th Grade. For anyone interested in playing, signups are going on now for the fall season at PYA — visit the PYA website at or stop by Arena Sports or Gail’s Shoes for an application.
