The Port Washington PAL D-Backs Softball teams each enjoyed incredibly successful spring seasons. Our “Rookies” got their first taste of real game action participating in a local inter-town league and learning the building blocks of future softball success under the tutelage of Jim Gabriel and his experienced staff. Our Veteran’s, almost all of whom also played for the undefeated Schreiber Varsity team, had a terrific season, finishing with the best winning percentage in the South Brooklyn Softball League, a league featuring travel teams from all over NYC and then capped their season with our first ever trouncing of the Lady Diamond Pro’s. The “Majors” were the repeat champions of the North Shore Softball League marking the third year in a row that our Majors program has won a Long Island Championship. Our “Minors” were among the finest teams in all Long Island compiling an overall 39 win and only six loss season, winning championships in the North Shore Softball League, RGMV Majors Division and the highly competitive NJBL. The girls also won the Ozone Park — Howard Beach Breast Cancer Fund-Raiser Tournament and placed 3rd in the Frozen Ropes Chester Tournament.
The D-Backs were started five years ago by Pete Witkow and Rob Elkins and have grown into the premier softball program in our area. Professional coaching, competitive games, travel, and the thrill of being part of a real team separate us from other programs. We play distinct seasons Spring, Summer, and Fall, conduct softball specific Winter Workouts and will be partnering with Parisi Speed School to offer specialized athletic training. If you’re a serious athlete, PAL is the program to be part of.
Port Washington PAL is the oldest youth sports group in Port Washington, and receives no direct public funding. Please consider being involved in any of our various programs, check us out on-line at www.pwpal.org and like us on Facebook.
