Welcome back to the fall season of Schreiber Sports... “Around the Fields…” this is the place where you can find highlights of the past week and some mention of what is to come… The football season began on Aug. 19 and everyone else on Aug. 31 so the sports are about 3 games into their seasons… We have 18 sports competing this fall at the high school…Varsity field hockey defeated GNS by a score of 6-2 in the season opener...JV field hockey won their first two games against Great Neck South 6-0 and Seaford 2-1. Girls swimming had an impressive 52-39 victory over Uniondale and placed first in all 11 events...boys cross country finished in second place out of 27 teams in the Wheatley Invitational. All three girls soccer teams have gotten off to a stellar beginning. Varsity won their first two games over Elmont 8-3 and Long Beach 2-0. JV 1 defeated Elmont and Long Beach 7-0 and 3-0. JV 2 defeated Great Neck South 2-0 Glen Cove 5-0. Boys varsity soccer took second in the Manhasset Tournament and held perennial power Syosset to a scoreless tie. Defending Long Island Champions girls tennis team won a 4-3 match over Garden City last week. Varsity football competed in two tough games already but are looking better each week… you will be impressed when they come home again on Oct. 3…Girls volleyball is 3-1 including a demanding 5 set victory over Hicksville… no truth to the rumor that the construction at the site of the old track will be a monster truck rally facility.
