Port Lady Legends 12-Year-Old Softball Travel Team District 28 Champs

As the summer of 2009 is winding down, the end of a successful season for the Port Washington Lady Legends 12U (ages 12 and under) softball travel team also came to an end.

Port Washington Youth Activities (PYA) sponsored the team, which was comprised of the best local softball players in that age bracket. The “Lady Legends” began their summer season by representing Port Washington in the Williamsport Little League World Series tournament. It is here where they made their biggest splash by winning the District 28 title against a formidable foe from Manhasset. This was truly a great achievement for the young ladies and the first ever Girls Softball District 28 Championship for PYA.

Their next stop was the Glen Cove Mayors Trophy Tournament. This tournament brought the best travel teams from across Long Island into the area. The Lady Legends had to play five games in a tough division comprised of six other teams, and played hard every game. The PYA girls were a much-improved team, a fact that was acknowledged by the umpires who have seen the team participate in this tournament in prior years. The officials had many positive comments on how far this group of girls has come in just a few short years, playing one of the fastest growing girls sports, fast-pitch softball.

Team Travel Coordinator and PYA Board member James Dalimonte was tremendously pleased and said “Since this team was put together, these young ladies gave us their all at practice and on the playing field. Their desire to compete and their attitude towards each other, their opponents, parents and officials exemplify sportsmanship at its highest level.”

Congratulations are certainly in order to PYA Coach Rob Caprariello, and the Lady Legends on their outstanding season.

As a follow up to this successful summer season, don’t miss out this fall! For anyone interested in playing girls softball starting in September, signups are going on now for the fall season at PYA for age groups kindergarten to seventh-grade.
