One of the most selfless acts of sports camaraderie took place last week when the girls varsity lacrosse teams from Port and Massapequa held a special KeiraStrong day in honor of coach Enright’s daughter who is battling leukemia. The teams wore KeiraStrong shirts as their game jerseys and played before a packed crowd at Burns Park in Massapequa. Though the Lady Vikings were overmatched in this game, the final outcome was about the outpouring of support for the Enright family. Thanks to all who attended the game and those who bought shirts for the fundraising cause. The loss to Massapequa is the only loss for the girls lacrosse team this year as they are 5-1 on the season.
The boys varsity lacrosse team is hovering around the .500 mark. The team hosts Hicksville in an MSG televised game this Friday on their turf. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
The boys varsity tennis team opened their season with a 5-2 win over Great Neck South. The team continues at home this Friday.
The defending conference champions and county finalist girls badminton team is now 3-0 to start the season. They have outscored their opponents 21-1 in games.
Upcoming events include the Port Invitational on April 27 and the Day at the Diamonds on April 28 – more information on these events will be featured in next week’s issue.
Please be aware of any phone solicitations you may be receiving regarding advertising space for an athletic journal/yearbook. Someone is calling businesses soliciting support for an athletics yearbook. There is no such thing, so please do not find yourself caught in something that is not part of the school, but rather enjoy – for free – all of our teams.
