For over 30 years, the fifth grade students at Manorhaven Elementary School have produced and performed in a gymnastics show for their teachers, parents and fellow students. The show is called the Fred Yarosh Gymnastics Show in honor of retired Manorhaven Physical Education Teacher, Fred Yarosh.
The show took weeks of preparation. Every fifth grade student participated. There was a welcome dance and routines on the floor, vault, rings, uneven bars and parallel bars. In addition, many students were required to work stage crew. This year’s theme was “Manorhaven at the Hop” and all music was from the 1950’s. Manorhaven Principal Bonni Cohen says, “The Gymnastics Show showcases the athleticism, coordination, and agility of the fifth grade students. Very often in our audience we have parents and siblings who have also performed in this show as a Manorhaven student. This is a wonderful tradition.”The Manorhaven Elementary 2012 Fred Yarosh Gymnastics Show was spearheaded by current Physical Education teacher, Mrs. Regan. She had a lot of help from many other teachers and paraprofessionals who were involved in making T-shirts, choreography, filmography, programs, and picture taking. It was quite the success and the students and staff should be proud!
