Schreiber Sports – “Scores and More”

The midterm week off will get our teams ready for the final stretch of the winter season. With three more weeks to go, all of our teams are vying for post-season position.

Kicking off this Friday will be a rematch of the girls basketball game vs. Hicksville. The Lady Vikings lost by two the first time these teams played. It is PYA night, so let’s pack the gym and get our girls a win.

The wrestling team has been the winter’s shining team. Currently holding a 15-4 dual meet record, the team has two second-place tournament finishes, Wheatley Cup Champions and have qualified as the top seed in the Division A Tournament this weekend.

The boys swim team is undefeated at 6-0. The team will swim their final regular season meet this Friday vs. Bethpage. The winner claims the conference championship.

The boys basketball team kept their playoff hopes alive with a 46-29 win over East Meadow. Next up for the guys is a rematch vs. Macarthur on Jan. 31. Boys JV basketball won two games last week defeating Valley Stream 51-38 and East Meadow 53-33.

Girls track continues to be among the top finishers in each of their events. Most recently at the Friendship Games they placed third in the 1,000m championships, first in the 4x5 lap relay, third in the high jump championships and third in the open high jump. In boys track the conference meet was held where Port’s 4x800 relay team was crowned Conference Champions. Port also had a top five 1,000m runner, one top five miler and six personal bests.

The girls gymnastics team scored another victory last week over Valley Stream Central by a score of 136.55 to 120.9. The team is currently at 4-3 with two dual meets remaining. The team will then look forward to competing in the County Individual Championships as well as the Coaches Invitational, both in February.

Lots to be proud of with our teams this winter. Come out to PYA Night this Friday and keep updated on the athletics website for upcoming games… see you there!
