The PYA Legends 11U Baseball Team won the District 28 Championship on July 15. The Legends faced three tough opponents to win the district.
The first game was against East Williston and the Legends won 13 to 1. Jake Morgan pitched five innings, striking out seven and giving up only two hits.
The hitting attack was led by Anthony Ramos, Timmy Castillo and AlexHejna who each had two hits and two RBIs, along with Tristan Duarte who hit a bases-clearing triple.
In the second game, the Legends beat Manhasset 3 to 2. Jake Morgan was again the pitching star, going six innings, striking out seven and giving up two hits.
Anthony Ramos was the hitting star with a triple and a single and three RBIs.
On probably the hottest day of the summer with the temperature reaching 104 degrees at game time, Timmy Castillo pitched a three hit shutout, striking out 11 and leading the Legends in a 5 to 0 win against Merillon to win the District Championship. The hitting attack was led by Kieran Dennis with two hits and two runs scored and RBI doubles from Jake Morgan and Russell Kindler.
“I am so proud of our team,” says Legends Manager Joe Ramos. “This was our goal as a team from the very beginning. Each and every player contributed to winning the championship whether it was great pitching, smart defense or timely hitting. It was a great honor to be part of this team and to coach such wonderful boys.”
The roster for the Port Washington Legends 11U Baseball Team is Jake Morgan (captain), Timmy Castillo, Anthony Ramos, Matthew Corinaldesi, Dexter Jarach, Tommy Carillo, Russell Kindler, Jack Downing, Tristan Duarte, Danny Galvez Kieran Dennis and Tommy Kaprowicz.
The manager is Joe Ramos with coaches Joe Duarte and Matt Hejna being assisted by Dave Jarach and Brett Morgan.
