Welcome back to another school year and the weekly “around the fields” report on what is happening with Schreiber high school sports. This week is a special week as we lead up to Pride in Port day on Saturday. One thing you will notice on the turf field is a new scoreboard. The board was partially funded through fundraising efforts by the teams that play on the field as well as generous donations. The scoreboard is dedicated to the memory of Mikey Megdal, a former student who passed away at a young age who was the ultimate Vikings fan. We will honor him and his family on Saturday before the game.
John Broza, our “Voice of the Vikings” will be missed at the microphone for the first time in 32 years. Campus Drive is renamed in his memory this week.
The football game vs. Uniondale is slated for kickoff at 1:30 p.m. Varsity field hockey plays on the upper field at 10 a.m. vs. New Hyde Park.
Already in this early school season, arguably the top two boys volleyball teams squared off in the first match of the season. Massapequa got the best of Port last Friday, then Port came back in its own tournament to defeat Massapequa to take the title. More rematches to come….
MSG Varsity filmed the girls soccer game last Monday. Look for it on Channel 614 on cablevision.
The tennis courts at Schreiber have been repaired, resurfaced and painted in blue and green. The girls tennis team looks strong this year so make your way to the courts and see some exciting tennis.
Lots more to bring to you but running out of space. Check out the athletics website or go to highschoolsports.net to see the full schedule of athletics this season. See you around the fields....
