Brooke Cenname of Port Washington won a gold medal at the Figure Skating Club of New York’s 85th annual Middle Atlantic Championships on September 12. The 8-year-old won her grouping, one of ten in her division, which consisted of six skaters. The “Mid-Atlantics” are one of the East Coast’s most prestigious annual figure skating competitions. There were over 300 skaters, including a number of Olympic and World Championship performers, at the three-day competition, held at the Sky Rink, at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan.
For Brooke’s freestyle performance, she skated to the theme from the Broadway musical, Cats. She skates six days per week, with many sessions at the Port Washington Family Skating Center, and takes ballet classes at the Zawacki Dance Studio, both located in Port Washington. Brooke is a fourth grader at Guggenheim Elementary School.
