It’s back. Some commissioners want to build a mausoleum. It’s a new headquarters building.
What is the cost? Why is it necessary? Is it the local “stimulus plan”?
Great timing for an unnecessary expense! Great planning!
Money from the state to the school district will surely be cut.
The county is facing a major budget deficit as a result of excessive over assessment of all properties.
The county collects and retains a fraction of our taxes, possibly 20 percent of the total paid for school and general taxes. Sixty-five percent of the multiyear refunds plus interest paid by the county are from school taxes collected and spent by the school districts. No refunds from schools.
No wonder the county is virtually bankrupt. From 20 percent of the real estate tax income Mineola receives, it refunds 100 percent of the reductions plus interest. This is unique to Nassau County. No other municipality has such a burden.
Now we are about to spend $30 million to $40 million so we have a jail for those not arrested, thank God. No refund on these taxes either, if spent.
Police taxes are second only to our school taxes. We need it as much as Pollack’s garage.
Thanks for letting me ramble.
