(Ed.s note: The following letter from Village of Manorhaven Mayor Michael Meehan was sent to AG Towers, Inc. in East Islip and is printed here at the mayor’s request.)
Reference is made to the above lease and to the unfinished structure built by you and your sub-contractors at 41 Pequot Avenue in the Village.
As you are aware, tremendous concern has been expressed by many of my constituents, particularly those who live in the Manhasset Isle neighborhood, regarding the appropriateness of a tower of this size and height at this location.
As you also are most surely aware, both the lease and site plan approval for this project were granted under the prior village administration, while my administration has been dealing with the profound public concern caused by those past actions.
Therefore, at this time, on behalf of the Village of Manorhaven and our residents, I request that AG Towers, Inc. voluntarily abandon this project and relinquish its leasehold in respect to the 41 Pequot Avenue site. Under such circumstances, the village offers to voluntarily relinquish all entitlement to any rental income under the lease.
The village stands ready to work with you to identify suitable alternative locations to the present site. We thank you for your prompt consideration of this request.
Michael T. Meehan,
Mayor Village of Manorhaven
