Letter: Parking Meters Should Be More Than One Hour

I would like to see a change in our parking meters. The meters are for only one hour on Main Street and other parking lots. If you want to do any shopping in town, you cannot leave your car for more than one hour.

I went for a perm the other day. The girl who was doing my hair had to go out three times to put in a quarter. The meters should be for three hours. This way, when you go shopping, you do not have to worry about getting a ticket.

If the meters were set for three hours, you could put in as much as you need – one, two or three hours. The meters in Florida are like this. Then you have more time to eat, shop or even stay at the beach. When we go to lunch on Main Street, we have to hurry so we will be out in one hour. If they were made for more than one hour, we could stay in the restaurant for a longer time.

Also, I feel bad for the workers who work on Main Street. It costs them about $2 a day to park. Add it up for the month and the total is almost $40. They should have a sticker for their car and they should pay half. The stickers for parking on Main Street could be similar to the stickers for railroad parking.

Let’s make a change so more people will shop, eat and take nice walks on Main Street.
